DEPUTY Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Emmanuel Opoku, has commended Federated Commodities Limited (FEDCO) for its positive contributions towards quality cocoa production in the country.
According to him, FEDCO, which is a leading Ghanaian owned cocoa buying company, has over the past 25 years played significant roles, thereby helping to ensure quality cocoa production in a sustainable manner.
In this regard, the Deputy Cocobod CEO has stated emphatically that FEDCO deserves to be applauded and motivated so that they would continue to play key roles to help improve quality cocoa production in the state.
Dr. Opoku delivered the positive and encouraging statement during the 25th anniversary celebrations of FEDCO, which was held at Asokwa in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region last Friday.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in a speech read on his behalf, said he was aware of the splendid works of FEDCO, which has gone a long way to improve cocoa production in the country, urging them sustain their good works.
The Asante King particularly singled out the late Dr. Alhaji Adamu Iddrisu, the founder of FEDCO, for praise, for his determination, vision and hard work, which has seen FEDCO to develop to its current enviable status.
Otumfuo stated categorically that the cocoa industry has over the years till date, been the major strength and pillar behind Ghana’s economy, so he admonished farmers to refrain from selling their cocoa farms to gold miners to mine for gold.
Hajia Maria Adamu, the MD of FEDCO, said FEDCO was on the right track now, regarding purchasing, marketing and facilitating the production of quality cocoa and other agricultural commodities in a sustainable manner.
She disclosed that “In 25 years of operations, FEDCO has established herself as one of Ghana’s leading indigenous cocoa buyer with a record share of about 7.5% over US$ 100m of national production in 2021”.
The chairman of the historic programme, Nana Agyenim Boateng, the Amoamanhene, urged FEDCO to continue to do its best for the cocoa sector. FEDCO also donated TV sets and items to over 170 cocoa farmers as part of the 25 years milestone.
