Commey vows to fight Lomachenko

IBF Lightweight Champion Richard Commey has refuted claims that he is avoiding a bout with unified Champion Vasyl Lomachenko over fear of losing his title.

Commey secured an emphatic knockout victory over Isa Chaniev in two rounds to annex the IBF title but injured his knuckle in the process.

He admitted that it will be unwise to face the man regarded as the best pound for pound boxer in the world when he is not fully healthy.

“I am boxer and I train to fight but sometimes there are things you feel you should do but when you know it is not the right time you need to take a step back to do what is necessary.

“Then you can go back,in my case I picked up an injury. Coming back from that you don’t want to fight a champ or the guy regarded as the pound for pound best fighter around.

“You need to see how your hand feels and maybe go into a title defense and see if you are ready.

“You want to go into a bout like that fully fit so there will be no excuses.

“He has one loss in his career so he is beatable, Commey revealed on Citi Tv’s athlete focus show The Tracker.

He currently holds a record of 28 wins and 2 defeats while winning 25 via knockout.
