The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) last Monday held mentorship day celebration for the North East Girls-in-ICT participants.
The event saw highly respectable mentors taking the ladies through professional tutorials at the Gambaga Girls Senior High School dining hall.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Magdalene Apenteng, Chief Director of the Ministry who spoke on behalf of the Sector Minister said, “ICTs have become the most basic building block of modern industrial society.”
She added, “In our world today, it has become crucial that we all master and acquire some basic skills and concepts of ICTs. This is because ICTs are so cross cutting that regardless of the sector one wants to work in, knowledge and skills in ICTs will be required to enhance performance, yet one problem poses a serious threat.
“As we all know, the ICT and digital economies are heavily dominated by males with very few women participating in the sector. It is for this reason that the ITU in 2012 enjoined its member states to adopt this laudable Initiative with the singular aim of bridging the digital gender divide.”
