Company Hands Over Three Projects to KNUST

The Antarctic Construction Works Company, a construction firm, has handed over three projects it sponsored to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) College of Engineering, at a ceremony in Kumasi.

The projects, which cost in excess of GH¢ 100,000.00 included a board room, conference room and students’ innovation centre.

Mr. Kwame Dankwa, Managing Director of the Company, said the facilities were meant to support research and innovation at the College.

He stressed the need for the private sector to assist the University with logistical support in order to meet its mandate of promoting science and technology education.

They should also open their doors for students of the University to come for internship programmes to enhance their practical knowledge.

Mr. Dankwa indicated that about 90 per cent of the company’s technical staff were all trained by the University, and commended them for bringing their expertise to bear for the company’s sustainable growth.

Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso, the Vice Chancellor, observed that the University did not have adequate resources to provide for every infrastructure needed to facilitate academic activities.

The Colleges, he said, should therefore, use innovative ways to source for funding for the successful implementation of some of their developmental and infrastructural programmes.

Professor Mark Adom-Asamoah, Provost of the College, disclosed that the College through research, had come out with some products to address the nation’s engineering challenges.

Among them were flying drones, open-space fire detectors, solar-powered traffic light and 4×4 wheel drive vehicle, whose prototypes were still undergoing further research to bring them to standard.
