It is confirmed that the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, was officially written to by the Asogli State Council to attend the Te Zã (Yam Festival) held over the weekend but when he honoured the invitation and got to the festival grounds on Friday, his homage and gift were rejected at the Asogli Palace, causing him and his delegation some major embarrassment.
Mr. Agyapong and his delegation, based on the invitation received, showed up at the Asogli Palace at Ho-Bankoe on Friday to pay homage to the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, who was Sitting-In State on the eve of the Te Za (yam festival) durbar, but he was not allowed to do so.
His gift items which he send along to be presented to Agogbomefia to mark the festival held under the theme “Lets Eschew Greed, Unite for Peace, Development and Prosperity”, were also rejected.
Kennedy Agyapong after being prevented from paying homage and his gifts also rejected, simply waved at the crowd and left the durbar grounds.
The Asogli State Council, as at Sunday evening, had not issued any official statement on the development.
However, media reports quoted unnamed chiefs of the Council to have said that Mr. Agyapong was treated that way because of his gross disrespect to the Agbogbomefia in the past.
A few years ago, Kennedy referred to our Agbogbomefia as corrupt person who used his position as the chairman of the National Investment Bank board to do fishy deals.”
“We have also not forgotten the comment Kennedy Agyapong made some years ago about the Ewe and Ga people,” said the unnamed chief was quoted.
Meanwhile, an official invitation letter addressed to Kennedy Agyapong and written on the letter head of the Asogli State Council, dated 25th July 2022 and signed by Stephen Tetteh, whose designation was given as “Secretary” noted:

Togbe Afede XIV Speech
Speaking on Saturday at grand Durbar to climax the 2022 Asogli Yam Festival, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV said Ghana has nothing to show for the country’s natural resources and huge borrowings.
“Our economic problems predate COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war. We are lucky to have so much – 30 percent of all mineral resources in the world, so much of the world’s arable lands, yet we cultivate so little to the world’s output, and we remain poor, and the worst part is that, we are so much indebted” Togbe Afede XIV noted.
He lamented that the huge sums of money Ghana has accessed have not translated into the needed infrastructural development Ghanaians deserve: “More worrying is the fact that, with a lot of debt, we cannot tell what that has done for us. So we still lack a lot of the basic facilities; poor roads. From Accra to Ho and Ho to Aflao, we know how bad the road is. Many of these roads used to be very good. If they were good and are now bad, then it means that we have retrogressed as a country.”
