A plea has been issued by actress Nana Ama McBrown to the Embassy of the United States of America in Ghana, requesting the lifting of the travel ban that has been imposed on her.
The ban was reportedly placed on her following her deportation from the United States in 2001. However, the specific reason for her deportation has not been disclosed by the actress.
During an interview, McBrown expressed her regret over the situation, explaining that the fear and anxiety many Ghanaians feel when approaching the U.S. embassy often led them to provide false information.
“It’s true that I didn’t know about it. There is this thing about Ghanaians that when we are going to the embassy, even now, we are very scared. We start shaking and for that matter we keep lying”, she stated
Reflecting on her own experience, she noted that during her time, people were particularly nervous, which may have contributed to mistakes being made during the visa application process. She emphasized that the process has since evolved, with new technologies such as fingerprinting being introduced to ensure accuracy and honesty.
She continued, “So I will use this opportunity to say that if you are going to the embassy, things have changed more than my time. Now fingerprints… are there. So we should things right, now. Now if I go and they don’t give me, I’m very okay. If they give me, I’ll be very happy because I’m coming genuinely now”.
The actress used this opportunity to advise others who are planning to visit the embassy. She urged them to be truthful and genuine in their applications, pointing out that records are now more permanent and can easily be accessed.
“And I’m saying that to everybody, go genuinely, because the records will be there forever. And if you keep lying, it will go against you,” she added.
McBrown expressed contentment with the current situation, stating that whether or not she is granted a visa, she is at peace because she is now approaching the process with genuine intentions.
In the same interview, McBrown also shared her views on marriage, offering a controversial opinion that women should consider marrying after the age of 35.
She believes that by waiting, women can better prepare themselves emotionally and physically, which in turn will help them handle the challenges of marriage more effectively. She further suggested that if she were a man, she would consider marrying after the age of 40 to ensure a stable and lasting relationship.
