Construction Firm Absconds With GH¢5.2m Tax
Owners of construction firm, Ace Façade have refused to pay about 5.2 million cedis in tax to the state as the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) chases them to retrieve the money.
The GRA after several efforts to retrieve the money without success visited a project site where Ace Façade was building for Allied Oil in Dzorwulu, but according to the authority, the owners of Ace Facade absconded.
The exercise was part of the GRA’s distress action to retrieve unpaid taxes from defaulting individuals and companies in Accra.
Speaking to journalists on the next move to take, the Chief Revenue Officer in charge of Debt Management Compliance and Enforcement Unit at the GRA, Reverend John Buabeng disclosed that Ace Facade has undertaken some construction works for Allied Oil, hence the GRA has served Allied Oil with an order to collect the money meant to pay Ace Facade.
“We have been told by the project Manager that they have absconded and left the project in limbo. They are nowhere to be found. So we will serve a garnishment order on Allied Oil if there is any money which must be paid Ace Façade, they will have to direct it to the GRA,” he said.
Rev. Buabeng however explained that Allied Oil has done no wrong and is not the target.
“Allied Oil is not connected to this liability per say, Ace Façade the company which we came to collect the tax from is undertaking a project for Allied Oil, so since we couldn’t locate any of their premises to get the money we came here through investigations to attach any property on sight belonging to Ace Façade that is how come we are here,” he said.
This is not the first time the task force has embarked on such a move.
A similar exercise recently nearly caused a closure of Accra Mall, as managers of the mall moved quickly to settle a 2 million cedis tax arrears.
