THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command have arrested one Yahaya Shaibu, a known National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
Shaibu, allegedly, slapped General Constable Osei Bonsu, who was among the police personnel in Kumasi, detailed to provide security at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The party was holding its Ashanti Regional Executives elections at the stadium.
According to reports, Shaibu was part of a group of men seen manhandling a certain female NDC member at the stadium, before the start of the voting process.
General Constable Osei Bonsu rushed to the scene and he attempted to rescue the woman. He was however slapped in the face by Shaibu..
At that moment, the other policemen present quickly arrested Shaibu, handcuffed him and sent him to the police station for questioning after which he was caged.
The group of men who were with Shiabu before his arrest then tried to forcibly free him from the police but they fired warning shots to scare them away.
Later on, the group of men who were unhappy Shabu had been whisked away chased away the few remaining policemen at the stadium with stones.
Meanwhile, the NDCs elections to elect the next batch of regional executives was delayed due to misunderstanding and open fighting by the party members
