Three men have been arrested at Weija in connection with robbery activities in Accra.
The suspects, who were picked up around 11:30 am on Thursday, included a soldier, a police officer and a civilian.
The civilian has been identified as Krosby Ofory Danso, the soldier; Corporal Bernard Tsagli and the police officer; Lance Corporal Asamoah.
Police noted that the soldier and police officer are not in active service and are currently on bail “facing similar charges” for a different robbery.
The security personnel are also facing “quasi-judicial enquiries in their various institutions,” the Acting Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Kweku Boadu Pepra said to the media.
At the Accra Regional Police Command, Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman reported that “the police describe them as criminals who have been operating or running a robbery syndicate over a number of years.”
Police said the security personnel had been interdicted “and were surprised they had been rearrested for the same offence,” he added.
One of the suspects’ victims, one Abubakar Saddique, narrated to Citi News that he was used by the men for a robbery on April 26.
Abubakar said he was under the impression he was partaking in a police operation when he was met by two suspects on the Ring Road in Accra.
They proceeded to target a man and tail him from a bank on the Ring Road to Nima where they eventually apprehended him.
“They took me straight from Nima through Burma Camp to New Spintex Road. Later we turned back and we came to Cantonments. It was there they took the money from the person and the pulled a knife and gun on me and said I should move the car.”
He was eventually released with his car at Gbawe and allowed to drive home.
