Coup At GHS! …As Nsiah-Asare High Jacks Gov’t Bungalow
Tongues are wagging over what appears to be the unwillingness of Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the former Ghana Health Service (GHS) boss to vacate his current unofficial apartment for his immediate successor to occupy.
According to sources close to the GHS, Dr Nsiah-Asare, who is now the Presidential Advisor on Health is still occupying the official bungalow at Airport, suburb of Accra.
This development according to the paper’s sources is causing discomfort for Dr Kuma-Aboagye, the current Director-General (DG) of the GHS who goes to work from his residence which is very far from the office.
It further claimed that the situation creates inconvenience to Dr Kuma-Aboagye the newly appointed DG of GHS who often gets back home at odd hours.
In the view of the source, the government could conduct its own independent investigations to find out if Dr Aboagye is still not occupying the bungalow.
The issue the paper noted has pushed some concerned staff of the GHS to appeal to the government to as a matter urgency address concerns regarding the accommodation for Dr Kuma-Aboagye, Director General of the Ghana GHS.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye was appointed as the GHS boss in November last year, following the reassignment of Dr Nsiah-Asare to the Presidency as an advisor on health issues.
Following his new appointment, Dr Nsiah-Asare is supposed to vacate his official residence to make way for the new DG but according to sources, the former GHS Director still occupies the facility, causing inconvenience to the new boss.
“Things would have been better if the new DG stays at the official residence in Cantonment to make it easier to commute to and from work. He closes very late due to the nature of the job and had to drive himself all the way to his residence and sometimes have to get back by 6am to attend to duties back at work,” the source stated.
The bungalow at the Airport residential area the source indicated, is solely for DGs of the GHS and they must immediately vacate the facility after their tenure of office.
“Dr Nsiah Asare is still staying in the bungalow for the past seven to eight months now. His current appointment as an adviser to the President on health is a personal appointment and not a general appointment of the GHS and the bungalow belongs to the GHS,” the source added.
“Government should be informed of the current situation and move to address the situation to enable the new DG to do his work effectively,” the source said.
When contacted on Friday August 7, 2020 for comments, Dr. Nsiah-Asare neither confirmed nor denied the veracity of the story except to say “I have nothing to say about it…”
Pushed further for his side of the story the senior medical officer rather directed the paper’s Editor to go back to its supposed source for any clarity on the matter and hanged up.
