President Nana Akufo-Addo has said the continuous criticism by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) is aimed at surviving in politics.
According to him, former President John Mahama and the NDC criticisms of government’s management of coronavirus in the country brings to home no results.
Addressing the nation Sunday night, the President urged Ghanaians not to begrudge those politicians taking aims at government’s effort since they do so for their political survival.
“I know some political actors would want you to believe that the new numbers represent a failure on our part, do not begrudge them, they need to make such statements for their political survival,” he said.
Ghana’s case count
Ghana’s case counts of the novel Coronavirus has increased to 4,700. The recoveries have also shot up to 494.
This was announced by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo in his ninth address to the nation on Sunday, May 10, 2020.
“With our total number of infections standing at 4,700 with 494 recoveries, 5 persons being critically ill and 4,179 responding to treatment, 22 persons virtually all of them with underlying illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes and chronic liver disease have unhappily died,” the president said.
Extension of ban on public gathering
Meanwhile,President Nana Akufo-Addo has extended the ban on the national ban on public gatherings including religious activities, festivals, and funerals till the end of May.
The extension comes into full force after he signed the Executive Instrument to give effect to the new measure from Monday, May 11, 2020.
“Tonight, I have come into your homes, to announce that the ban on public gatherings, as set out in Executive Instrument 34, has been extended, also to the end of the month ie, 31st May,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“So during this period, there will continue to be a ban on public gatherings such as holding of conferences, workshops, parties, night clubs, drinking spots, festivals, political rallies, religious activities, sporting events. All educational facilities private and public, continue to remain closed. The is still a ban on funerals, other than private burials with not more than 25 persons. It is noteworthy that the police is arresting and prosecution persons irrespective of their status in society who flout these regulations,” he added.
