COVID-19: Markets in Eastern, Oti, Volta Regions set for disinfection exercise today
All markets within the Eastern, Oti and Volta Regions will on today, April 4, 2020 be closed for a disinfection exercise.
The exercise forms part of the government’s program to disinfect all markets and other public areas across the country following the recorded cases of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Regular market activities are scheduled to resume on Sunday, April 5, 2020.
“In view of His Excellency, President Nana Addo’s order to disinfect markets on the coronavirus pandemic, the general public is hereby informed of the disinfection of Two Hundred and Forty-Six(246) markets in Eastern Region, Sixty(60) markets in Oti Region, and Sixty-Three(63) markets in Volta Region on Saturday, 4th April, 2020.
”Metropolis, Municipal and District Assemblies(MMDAs), in collaboration with Market Queens and leaders are to close all markets in their jurisdiction on Saturday, 4th April, 2020 for disinfection to enhance conditions of hygiene in order to contain and prevent the spread of the virus. The markets would be opened on Sunday 5th April, 2020 for business” a release from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development signed by Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama announced.
COVID-19 cases in Ghana
On Friday, April, 3, 2020, the country’s total case count for Coronavirus increased to 205 including five deaths and three recoveries.
This was after the Upper East region confirmed its first case. The Upper East region becomes the sixth region to be affected by the outbreak in Ghana. According to the Ghana Health Service, two patients are still in critical condition.
With the latest update, Greater Accra still leads as the region with the most number of confirmed cases(183), followed by the Northern Region(10) before Ashanti(9), Upper West(1), Upper East(1) and Eastern Region(1).
