The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful has begun the distribution of food items to 6000 underprivileged constituents.
Following the restriction on movement of persons in Greater Accra and the Greater Kumasi as a containment measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, residents have called for support.
As a result, the MP who is also the Minister for Communications, shared food packs of rice, cooking oil, tomato Puree, tinned mackerel, Sardine, soap among other items. They also gave out locally produced face masks
The free food packs were given to the vulnerable, aged, widows and needy groups in the constituency with no discrimination.
Cooked food provided by the Government through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is also being distributed to the vulnerable and needy throughout the constituency daily.
Mrs. Ekuful noted that the distribution of the food items will continue during the lockdown period to sustain the needy and ensure that they keep clean and safe.
Traditional leaders in communities like Tunga, Nasarawa, Shiabu, Gbegbeyise etc have been supplied with bags of rice and other items for onward distribution to their town folks.
Mrs. Ekuful and her team educated the constituents on the need to observe social distance, wear nose mask and continuously wash their hands.
“The awareness on social distance out there is poor, we will need to do more” she said.
Those who received the items expressed gratitude to the MP for her intervention at this difficult period.
