David Dontoh Was My Lover ─ Maame Dokono
Veteran Actress Grace Omaboe, known in movie cycles as ‘Maame Dokono’, has revealed that she dated David Dontoh for 4 years.
In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM on Wednesday, the 72 year-old disclosed that she dated the ‘Deadly Voyage’ actor because she needed someone to help ward off the many men that pestered her with love proposals.
According to her, “David Dontoh held me together and handled me well. At that time I was popular, beautiful and many, different men were all over me when I am on stage, so I needed someone to hold me.”
Grace Omaboe, was initially a writer on Osofo Dadzie in the 70’s when she was encouraged by Nana Bosom Pra to act in a series she co-produced called Keteke.
She moved on from there to become one of the most sought after actors of her time when she starred in and produced the 1980s/1990s Akan drama series Obra on GBC TV.
Movie lovers named her ‘Maame Dokono’, after she played a character as a Kenkey seller in a movie.
She starred in the 2013 short Kwaku Ananse and Children of the Mountain (2016)
She also hosted a children’s drama and story-telling programme called ‘By the Fireside’ on GTV.
