The De-Graft Johnson Foundation yesterday once again lived up to its tag line “… Sharing Hope” when it donated over four thousand Cedis worth of assorted items to the Echoing Hills Village Ghana in Accra.
The gesture is part of the Foundation’s unalloyed commitment to assist in improving the lives of the under privileged in society.
The items includes bags of rice, sugar, corn dough, milo, cartons of milk ,10 packs of bottled water, packs of drinks, biscuits, vegetables, a galon of oil, 3 large bags of used clothing, toiletries, sanitary pads, detergents and a wheel chair among others.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, Mr. Richmond De-Graft Johnson aside the items also donated an undisclosed amount of money to Revd. Joe Ocran, the Board Chairman of Village as part of its support to assist the village defray part of its utility debts.
Handing over the items to Mrs. Felicia Opoku Mensah at a brief ceremony in Accra yesterday, Mr. De-Graft Johnson urged the children at the facility to respect their caregivers.
He said the children must also live their lives according to the dictates of the Bible in order to be good and dependable adults in future.
The Absolute Brand Media, CEO and Radio Personality also reminded the children to shun all negative behaviours and practices that would destroy their lives.
Mr. De-Graft Johnson tasked the caregivers of the Village to use the items for their intended purposes.
Receiving the items for and on behalf of the Home, Mrs. Opoku Mensah expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the gesture.
She said she is particularly enthused about the donation of vegetables because the Home constantly buys those items.
Mrs. Opoku Mensah also, the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Village said the Foundation has particularly by the donation met the needs of the Home.
Earlier, Rev Joe Ocran, Board Chairman of Village stated the facility is not on any government support.
He indicated that the Village leases its current place from Ghana Society for the Socially Disadvantaged (GSSD) which has offered not to renew its lease agreement with them.
Asked what efforts the Social Welfare Department was doing to assist, Rev. Ocran stated that the Department is aware of the case.
He disclosed that the facility currently owes Water bill to the tune of GH¢4,000 and GH¢3, 000 for electricity adding that as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) they pay for their own utility bills.
The man of God noted that the Villages’ topmost priority is to get about a three acre land to develop into a male and female dormitory for the children at the facility, insisting that the facility will stay in Accra if it is able to acquire an affordable land within the Accra Municipality.
Meanwhile, the Foundation has adopted two teenagers for educational sponsorship from the Village.
The two, a class six pupil, aged 15 and a Junior High School (JHS) final year student aged, 15 would have every cost concerning their education borne by the Foundation.
