In a statement signed and released by Hon. Safo who is also the deputy Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament, it states, “I want to condemn unequivocally and in no uncertain terms the barbaric act of this police corps and to urge the Inspector General of Police to take every step to ensure that this police man is dealt with punitively according to the law”
She further congratulated the Inspector General of Police for his swift action on the matter, she further urged the number one Constable of the land to follow up the case to its logical conclusion, ensuring adequate justice for the woman.

I CONDEMN THE BARBARIC ACTION OF THE POLICEMAN AGAINST THE POOR NURSING MOTHER – ADWOA SAFO.
My attention has been drawn to a video which has gone viral on the various social media platforms.
In the said video a nursing mother was seen being brutally pummeled mercilessly by a policeman for insisting that the bank allows her to withdraw her own money from her account at the premises of Midland Savings and Loans.
I want to condemn unequivocally and in no uncertain terms the barbaric act of this police corps and to urge the Inspector General of Police to take every step to ensure that this police man is dealt with punitively according to the law.
As a mother I wept uncontrollably watching this poor nursing mother being subjected to severe beatings by this police man at a time when she was carrying nearly three months old baby.
What is even more distasteful was the fact that onlookers including officials of Midland Savings and loans watched proceedings closely without any intervention to save this woman from the torrential blows of this police Corp.
At this age where women empowerment advocacy has been very pervasive, it is most despicable to see such barbaric and vicious act being meted out to such a poor and unsuspecting woman by a police corps whose core mandate and responsibility is to protect the poor and the vulnerable.
I have been told that the Inspector General of Police as a matter of urgency has caused the arrest of the said police man. Whilst congratulating him his swift action, I want to urge him to continue to follow up this case to its logical conclusion, ensuring adequate justice for the woman.
I also want to make a request to the management of the Midland Savings and Loans to ensure that the appropriate compensation package be prepared for her.
Lastly, I want to thank all Ghanaians for the massive outpouring of condemnation against the uncouth action of this police man and calling for justice this poor woman.
Signed:
Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo
Chairperson, Women’s Caucus
Parliament of Ghana
