Decentralised Departments Must Collaborate Effectively
Departments and Agencies in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been told not to work in isolation but coordinate their activities to promote efficient and effective development of their localities.
The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan who gave the advice said successful implementation of government’s policies, programmes and projects would depend on how well the assemblies collaborated towards their execution.
Mr Duncan was addressing Heads of departments and Agencies at the 2018 Central Regional Coordinating Council Meeting in Cape Coast.
He said empowering the citizenry to improve their living conditions was a shared responsibility by all stakeholders through well-coordinated activities.
“Our Agencies and Departments should take note that they are not in competition with each other, but are all partners in development and as such should share ideas and experiences to foster proper planning in the execution of projects for the benefit of the nation” he said.
He urged the MMDAs to ensure judicious use of the human and material resources in their communities as well as the funds given them to enhance the well-being of their people adding that, no excuses would be accepted if the they failed.
Mr Duncan re-affirmed government’s commitment to ensure that every community had access to basic social amenities such as; quality health care, good roads, education, sanitation and water.
He said access to good drinking water, effective sanitation and education on good hygiene practice were some of the most cost-effective ways of achieving targets in quality health care services delivery.
The Regional Minister mentioned that sanitation, education, job creation and retaining investors were at the core of his development strategy to achieve a comprehensive sustainable development for the Region and the deteriorating levels of education, the worsening sanitation situation and the lack of employable opportunities for the teeming youth were the major challenges facing the region.
According to him, the tourism, education and investment potentials of the region did not commensurate its current development and therefore a concerted effort by all interest groups was needed to remedy the situation.
Commissioner of Police (COP), David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, the Central Regional Police Commander said the Police was well aware of increased activities of social miscreants, but assured that the Police was up to the task and appealed to the public to cooperate with the Police and volunteer timely information about criminal hideouts to enable them to clamp down on their activities.
