Decongestion Hits Kumasi Today
RECALCITRANT HAWKERS, who continue to trade in unapproved areas in Kumasi, will not be allowed to do so again, from today.
This is because there will be a massive decongestion exercise in the Ashanti Regional capital, and the exercise would be sustained for a long period.
Making the announcement, the Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI, stated that full force would be used to expel the hawkers from the streets.
According to him, the chiefs and the city authorities decided to use a human face to oust the hawkers from the streets so as to ensure peace.
He, however, stated that they have realized that some of the hawkers are taking advantage of the lenient approach to continue to trade on the streets unlawfully.
The Bantamahene therefore warned that the decongestion exercise would see a different approach and style from today Monday February 5, 2018, whereby no trader that is caught in the illegality would be spared.
Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI was addressing newsmen when the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) inspected the Kejetia Bus Terminal over the weekend.
He lauded the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi, for his passion to restore the lost beauty of Kumasi.
The Bantamahene therefore assured that the chiefs in Kumasi would rally behind the Kumasi Mayor so that the city would be totally decongested.
According to him, the chiefs are major stakeholders in the development of the city so they would give the KMA the needed backing to move Kumasi forward.
