BARRING ANY last minute hitch, Kumasi residents will have something to cheer about as plans are in the pipeline for the construction of an interchange project at the Suame Roundabout in September this year.
The pleasant news was announced by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis on Monday.
“Hopefully, in September this year, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will come here and cut the sod for works on the Suame Interchange Project, which has been on the drawing board for sometime, to officially start”, he said.
The veteran Lawmaker announced the good news during a meeting with the various groups in the Suame Magazine. The timely meeting enabled Kyei Mensah Bonsu to explain his plans for Suame, notable road projects, to his people.
According to him, parliament would this week finalize discussions on the Suame Interchange Project, which is so dear to the people of Kumasi and Ashanti Region at large, thereby given way for works to start in September.
Kyei Mensah Bonsu, however, pointed out that the commencement of the Suame Interchange project would bring about some challenges and discomfort for Suame residents, urging them to bear with the contractors.
“The massive dust that would be generated during the construction works period would create discomfort for you and I am appealing with you to bear with the contractors, by supporting them for the project to go on smoothly”.
Interestingly, before the MP announced the good news, some agitated youth of Suame, had naively hit the Suame main road to protest. They also hoot at their MP and his entourage over what they termed as bad road network.
The angry-looking youth mainly complained bitterly about the bad nature of the main Suame to Afrancho road, which is a busy road. They said the potholes in the road posed great danger to drivers and commuters
Meanwhile, Kyei Mensah Bonsu, in his address, stated emphatically that the Suame to Afrancho road, which influenced the youth to protest, had already been given on contract, stressing that the contractor would start work soon.
He also used the occasion to highlight a number of road projects that have been constructed in Suame Constituency during the last four years through his efforts to help improve the movement of people and goods
Kyei Mensah Bonsu said the Maakro Township road, New Suame Electoral Area roads, Magazine Club 600 road and Osborn Junction-Nkwantwoma roads have all been constructed.
Still on road projects in Suame, he said “construction works on the Breman West road and Adjei Peprah Electoral Areas roads are still ongoing, just to mention a few”, adding that he was doing his best for the constituency.
He therefore called for support from his constituents so he could lead Suame into affluence.
