The Rotary Club of Obuasi has announced the assumption of office of Rotarian Delphine Gborgblorvor as the 5th President since the club was established in 2019.
The handover ceremony, held at the Mawuli Hotel, was highly patronized with distinguished guests, Rotarians and Rotaractors all in attendance. There was also the official launch of the 5th anniversary of the Obuasi Rotary Club.
Miss Gborgblorvor comes into her new role with a rich experience in the health field and a zeal to serve humanity as the Rotary Club is noted of.
She has been a Rotary member in good standing and as President, she is expected to bring her experience to the fore to drive the vision of the club in Obuasi. She takes over from Godfrey Mwachande who has successfully served his term.
Speaking with the media at the sidelines of the program, the new President of the Obuasi Rotary Club said her leadership will be centered on Rotary International’s areas of focus which includes promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment.
She again touched on activities lineup for the 5th anniversary. She said the club will continue to create hope in the world by implementing the ‘Magic of Rotary’ initiative, with some activities focused on promoting peace ahead of the 2024 elections.
She said the activities to promote peace ahead of the elections include peace walk, clean up exercises and plant trees to remind Ghanaians the importance of maintaining peaceful co-existence before, during and after the December 7 elections.
To support reading, Miss Delphine Gborgblorvor said Rotary is establishing two libraries in Obuasi and Akrofuom as well as establishing two STEM clubs in Obuasi and its environs.
Outgoing President Godfrey Mwachande thanked members for supporting him to achieve the theme for last year ” create hope in the world” which he said was accomplished as a result of the collective efforts of all members.
He highlighted on the strides made by the club during his tenure which included partnering the Rotary Club of Chesapeake, Virginia, USA to purchase a Mobile Medical Van for the Chesapeake Regional Hospital, free medical screening for inmates of Obuasi Local prisons and sanitary pad donation project.
He lauded the incoming President for her hard work and promised of his unflinching support to her in the discharge of her duties.
