Demand Receipts for Taxes Paid – Mayor Tell Traders
TRADERS plying their trade in the various markets in the Kumasi Metropolis have been told to demand receipts of taxes that they pay.
This, the authorities say, will help prevent unscrupulous people from pocketing the monies that are meant to develop the metropolis.
The Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, made the call, when he addressed market women in Kumasi recently.
According to him, he had received reports that some tax collectors had been pocketing tax monies and stressed that, as part of measures to block those loopholes, his administration had employed more people to monitor tax collection in the markets.
“If they come and you don’t have a receipt, it would mean that you did not pay your tax for the day and that may land you in big trouble”, he cautioned.
Hon. Assibey said the assembly was poised to accelerate the development of Kumasi and would as such need the support of all-and-sundry.
He urged residents to always pay their taxes promptly, saying cities and countries are developed through taxes.
