Demo Mars NPP Nomination Filing

The peaceful filing of nomination forms by executive hopefuls was yesterday interrupted by a massive demonstration by some irate residents within the Okaikoi South Constituency.

The demonstration which almost stole the spotlight that was stationed on the filing of nomination forms by executive hopefuls of the party, sought the removal of Mr Victor Newman from the affairs of the party in the constituency.

The demonstrators who throng the party headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra, were clad in party paraphernalia, holding placards and chanting war songs.

Their placards had inscriptions and some read, “No Okaikoi South Elections, No National Elections, “Mr & Mrs Newman Are Destroying Okaikoi South”.

According to the convener of the All Concerned Delegates of Okaikoi South Constituency, Mr J.K. Mensah, the constituency had not yet conducted its constituency executive elections though the party was heading for its national elections.

Mr Mensah alleged that aside Mr and Mrs Newman financing some individuals to deliberately drag the constituency to court simply to delay the election of constituency executives, the Newman’s are also using the office of the president and first lady to delay the entire process.

This, he said has led to the constituency being denied the opportunity to participate in the regional elections.

“The regional office knows very well that the plaintiffs in the court action did not follow the laid down procedures per the constitution,” he explained.

The group has therefore petitioned the leadership of the NPP to address the growing tension and ultimately save the image of the party within the constituency.

They have also called for disciplinary actions against some party executives for gross misconduct and breach of the party constitution.

The persons are; Moses Clottey, Albert Fleischer, Joseph Nunoo, Joseph Oppong and Solomon Owusu.

Mr Mensah also asked that permission be granted for the smooth running of constituency executive elections by next week.

The embattled Okaikoi South NPP members have threatened to stop the national elections if a redress is not done quickly.

Fight

The filing ceremony also witnessed pockets of tussles from various camps.

At the arrival of Kamal-Deen Abdulai and Mr Stephen Ntim, some supporters who were prevented from entering the party office were up in arms with some security personnel.

But with the timely intervention of some security personnel and party officials, calm was restored.
