Disaster Looms At Truba …As Only Bridge Collapses
RESIDENTS OF Truba, in the Manhyia North Constituency of the Ashanti Region, are living in danger as the only bridge that links the area to other parts of Kumasi is rapidly collapsing.
Floods have already washed most of parts of the bridge away to the chagrin of residents. The bridge links Buokrom Quarry and Truba Township, and so its collapse has created a lot of problem for road users.
For now, the bridge looks very weak and vehicles have stopped plying the area for close to one year now, as residents are forced to alight from cars, walk across the death-trap bridge, and continue their journeys.
They said even though the bridge is submerged by water whenever it rains, they have no alternative than to continue to walk on it.
“The bridge can collapse anytime and lead to injuries or deaths but we have no option. Even when it rains and the bridge is submerged by water, we still walk on it, residents said”.
Kwaku Gyasi, a Truba resident, has appealed to government to, as a matter of urgency, fix the bridge to avert disaster in the near future.
