RESIDENTS OF Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi have benefitted from a Clinical Science and Symptoms Testing for COVID-19 exercise, geared towards halting the spread of the deadly virus.
A group of medical doctors and nurses by name AFRINA, which is an acronym for Nana Owusu Afriyie IV, the Otumfuo Apagyahene, embarked on the one-week laudable exercise for free of charge.
Interestingly, the seasoned medical doctors and experienced nurses, screened virtually all the people they came into contact with in the streets.
Others were also screened for free in their homes.
The Apagyahene and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh nicknamed ‘Napo’, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, both recovered from the deadly Coronavirus some few months ago.
Whilst on admission at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UMGC), the Apagyahene showed love to medical staff and this influenced some of the medical staff to form AFRINA to honour the Apagyahene.
George Kofi Boateng, Head Nurse of UGMC, who is part of AFRINA, said Napo and the Apagyahene have displayed commitment to help defeat the COVID-19 and AFRINA wants to compliment their efforts.
He particularly lauded Napo, a renowned medical doctor, for boldly coming out after recovering from the virus, to educate the masses about what they ought to do in order to stay safe from the deadly virus.
George Kofi Boateng stated that AFRINA wants to totally eradicate COVID-19 from the Manhyia South Constituency “so we have also disinfected institutions like police stations in the constituency”.
According to him, members of AFRINA are mainly sympathisers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) so they are also taking advantage of the exercise to preach about the NPPs positive works.
Haruna Alhassan, the Manhyia South NPP Secretary, on behalf of his boss, Napo, commended AFRINA for their selfless work to help defeat Covid-19 across the country and urged them to keep it up.
He said AFRINA used one-week to visit all the homes in the six electoral areas in the Manhyia South Constituency including KO, Manhyia Proper, Krobo Odumase, CPC, Dichemso and Afia Kobi “and we grateful to them”.
