Doctors Not Joining Strike Action

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has issued an important notice to its members, confirming that it has not declared any industrial action in relation to the ongoing fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

Despite this, the GMA expressed its firm solidarity with the efforts of organised labour in addressing the environmental crisis caused by galamsey operations.

In the statement signed by Dr Frank Serebour, president of the GMA, the association called on all its members to continue providing uninterrupted services.

The GMA assured its members that any decision regarding future actions related to the issue would be communicated by the national executive council (NEC) when necessary.

“The GMA has not declared a roadmap for an industrial action. Therefore, all members are expected to continue providing full services without interruptions. The GMA, however, is in solidarity with the organised labour in this fight against galamsey,” the notice read.

Galamsey has become a national concern, prompting calls from multiple organisations, including the GMA, for a united front in combating the illegal activity.
