THE ASHANTI Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has cautioned the youth in the country not to avail themselves to be used for violent acts before, during and after the December 17 polls.
He particularly admonished the youth, whom he described as the future leaders of the state, not to allow themselves to be used wrongly by greedy and unpatriotic politicians to foment violent acts to destroy the credibility of the December elections.
According to him, the security agencies, especially the military and the police, are firmly in control of the security situation therefore they would not spare anybody or group that would attempt to cause violence acts.
Mr. Osei Mensah, who was speaking on Akoma FM in Kumasi, stated that any politician that would approach any youth in the country to start violent activities to destroy the elections, should be rejected instantly.
“Any politician that will come to you to start violent acts to destroy the peace and beauty of the elections is a traitor and a nation-wrecker therefore such people should be rejected”, the Ashanti Regional Minister said.
According to him, elections are organized, ostensibly, to elect new leaders to properly manage the affairs of the country therefore he was expecting the electoral process to be totally peaceful, without any trouble.
Touching on the current security situation in the Ashanti Region in the wake of reported cases of robberies, Mr. Osei Mensah, who is head of REGSEC, said the robberies were just a flash in the pan.
Sounding very positive, he stated that the security agencies are battle ready and determined to stop all robbery and other illegal activities in order to help ensure peace and expedite the growth of the region.
According to him, residents in the region should continually supply vital information about criminals in the region to the security agencies so they would instantly apprehend them before they could plan to strike.
Osei Mensah also announced that the security agencies have decided to intensify their patrol and other activities in order to make the elections and the Christmas season peaceful and enjoyable for the people.
