Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia, is in financial troubles as his mega construction project at Race Course, in Kumasi, has been totally demolished.
The capital-intensive project was, reportedly, being built in the course of the revered Subin river at the Race Course. The beleaguered chief was putting up the structure to lease shops to people for his own benefit.
This action of the Bantamahene infuriated the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who at a traditional meeting, ordered the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to pull down the structures without delay.
Few days after the Asante Monarch’s stern order at the Manhyia Palace, the entire building was demolished by bulldozers and caterpillars of the KMA, thereby bringing the chief’s huge investment to nothing.
Some construction experts in Kumasi have disclosed that the Bantamahene have lost huge amount of money, considering the fact that the building project was nearing completion stage.
Drama At Manhyia
Meanwhile, there was drama at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the official seat of the Asantehene, last week when an angry-sound Doing Otumfuo Osei Tutu II threatened to destool the Bantamahene.
The Asantehene was angry because of reports that Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia had infamously filled parts of the revered Subin River at the Race Course to pave way for his mega construction project.
Otumfuo, who was brimming with rage, stated that the Bantamahene’s stool is huge and respected in Asanteman, therefore Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia shouldn’t have stooped low to commit such a crime.
The Asantehene was therefore on the brink of destooling the Bantamahene, who is the head of the Kontire Division. The beleaguered chief quickly went down on his knees and begged Otumfuo to forgive him.
Luckily for the Bantamahene, the other chiefs at the traditional meeting also begged Otumfuo on his behalf. Otumfuo therefore forgave the Bantamahene, who was on his knees with the entire Kontire Division.
