A Former Political Science Lecturer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has faulted the Akufo-Addo-led administration for indulging in what he describes as family and friends government.
Speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class FM, Dr. Amoako Baah said he was a ferrous critic of the past John Mahama administration for appointing a lot of Northerners during his government but what is transpiring now in the Akufo-Addo government is worse.
“I was accusing President Mahama for having too many northerners in his government when he was in office and these people were not his family members, most of them were not and now we have a situation that is worse than his”, Dr. Amoako Baah noted.
He said having a lot of family members and friends is not good for the development of the country because if things are not going on well, they will not alert you and when they do wrong, it is difficult to punish them.
The Former Political Science Lecturer’s comments comes weeks after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presented names of persons it says were relatives and cronies within the Akufo-Addo government.
That party had at a press conference addressed by its National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi listed 51 names of relatives and cronies which he said pointed to “classic and unprecedented” nepotism within the Akufo-Addo government.
But Emphasizing on the seeming practice of nepotism in the current government, Dr. Amoako Baah added that no matter the justification and interpretation by people of the government, still nepotism is not good for the country adding that perhaps if the president gets another chance; he will not do things this way again.
Commenting on the issue of the referendum, he advised the government to take its time to do things right.
He said the government must draw a good picture for the citizens concerning the upcoming referendum since it needs to be explained copiously to the understanding of the citizenry in order for them to have adequate information before the polls on December 7, 2019 for them to make right choices.
