Ghanaian actor John Peasah, widely known as Drogba from the popular YOLO television series, has shared his miraculous recovery after battling severe health conditions, including the rare Stiff Person Syndrome.
Sharing his remarkable testimony on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Christ Embassy’s Airport City crusade in Accra, the actor stated that for the first time in four years, he was able to walk in public without assistance.
Before his miraculous healing, he has been largely confined to his home, unable to engage in public activities or even walk in crowds without severe physical and emotional reactions.
The syndrome, characterized by muscle rigidity and spasms, had made it nearly impossible for him to maintain a normal life. His condition was so severe that any attempt to go out required him to wear a face mask, as seeing a crowd would trigger uncontrollable shaking, making it impossible for him to walk.
His sister, who has been by his side throughout his health journey, provided a poignant account of his struggles:
“For the past four years, he hasn’t been able to go out. Anytime he tries to go out, he has to wear a face mask because the moment he sees a crowd, he won’t be able to walk. His head will start shaking, and he won’t be able to walk. You’d have to hold him. But today is the first time in four years that he has been able to walk in a crowd.”
Drogba himself was astonished by the improvement in his condition during the service, noting that it was the first time in years he had been able to walk freely among people. He expressed amazement at how his deteriorating health had turned around so dramatically in one night, especially since he believes he is the first Ghanaian to be diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome.
“I find it very hard to walk in public, but I feel better today. The funny thing is nobody has stiff person syndrome in Ghana; I’ve been trying to reach out to people but to no avail,” he shared.
In addition to Stiff Person Syndrome, Drogba has been contending with multiple other health challenges, including a condition that affects his coordination and balance, chronic vision problems, tremors, and dizziness.
These issues have not only taken a toll on his physical well-being but have also drained his financial resources.
To manage the overwhelming medical expenses, Drogba launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $280,000 to seek international treatment. His public appeal reflects the dire need for help as he continues to fight these debilitating conditions while holding on to the hope of recovery.
