Duffuor ‘whipping’ Mahama in Ashanti
DR. KWABENA Duffuor’s hope of being elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2024 elections seems to have received massive boost in the Ashanti Region.
Credible reports reaching THE NEW PUBLISHER said Duffuor, who is a former Finance Minister, stand the chance of getting his supporters to occupy key party positions in the Ashanti region.
If Duffuor eventually gets his men to occupy important party positions in the region, definitely it would go a long way to help him (Duffuor) to win more votes in the 47 constituencies in the region.
Significantly, the upcoming Ashanti Regional NDC elections, which is slated for this coming weekend, has seen the party members sharply divided into Mahama and Duffuor camps.
Interestingly, the Ashanti Regional NDC Secretary contest has taken the center stage of the Mahama-Duffuor battle in the region, so far.
Ofori Agyeman Boadi aka ‘Zuba’, who is from the Mahama camp would be facing Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who is also from the Duffuor camp, to battle for the enviable party position.
According to the reports, Zuba, who is a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi, is very popular among the NDC delegates in all the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.
On paper, Zuba is heavily tipped to win the elections but latest reports indicated that the Duffuor candidate, Dr. Amoakohene, is gradually gaining roots as the Election Day approaches.
Checks made by the paper have revealed that Duffuor has pumped huge amount of cash to support his preferred candidates to enable them win important party positions in the Ashanti Region.
According to reports, even though Zuba, the Mahama candidate, is the favourite, things are becoming a bit difficult for him now as he is cash-strapped as his opponent is gaining weight.
Importantly, the NDC Regional Secretary contest has been termed as Popularity Contest for Mahama in Ashanti Region.
Per the reports, if Zuba loses the elections, it would serve as a moral booster for Duffuor, with regard to his chances of winning more votes in the Ashanti Region to boost his presidential ambition.
A Zuba defeat would also signal that John Mahama’s popularity in the Ashanti Region is rapidly going down.
