Residents living in and around Accra in the Greater Accra Region Sunday morning took to social media to share experiences of an earth tremor.
The tremor, which occurred at about 11: 40 pm Saturday evening shook buildings, creating some panic among the residents.
Residents in areas such as Gbawe, Sowutuom, Old Kasoa Barrier, New Bortianor, Awoshie, Abelemkpe, Tabora, Achimota, Ablekuma, Kisseiman, Westlands, Laterbiokorshie, Legon and McCarthy Hills felt the ground shake vigorously during the earth tremor.
This is the fourth tremor experienced within a space of two years. The ripples were felt at Anyaa, Dansoman, Lapaz and their environs.
The Geological Survey Department is yet to give an update about the latest tremor which sent some residents into panic mode.
Previously the Geological Survey Authority said signs picked up show that the fault lines are active which means that an earthquake can occur at any time. Senior seismologist Nicholas Opoku also disclosed during the third tremor that there is cause to worry.
“We should be scared if where these events are occurring have human exposure, buildings and societal activities.
“We have been talking about earthquakes all these while. The fault systems that give rise to these earthquakes are active and they can give a big earthquake in future which can be disastrous.” – he said.
