Eastern Region: Bawumia tightens NPP’s grips

Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is leaving nothing to chance to ensure that the Eastern Region remains a stronghold of the party less than a week to the 2024 polls.

Dr Bawumia as part of efforts in consolidating the gains of the party after his tour of some constituencies in the Oti Region, visited the Afram Plains, , New Juaben North and New Juaben South on Saturday November 30, 2024..

In a show of supremacy over the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) and a signal that the region is a no-go-area for the opposition, the Eastern Regional Capital, Koforidua stood still as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ended his campaign tour of the region.

It was a fitting climax to an energetic campaign in the region, a fortress of the NPP, which its new and popular Candidate, Dr. Bawumia is expected to consolidate in next week’s election.

Dr. Bawumia had already toured major part of the region earlier in the campaign, but three constituencies left were cleared on Saturday by the Vice President.

After a receiving a great welcome in Afram Plains, Dr. Bawumia made the long journey from the planes to the regional Capital, Koforidua, where he received a mammoth reception in New Juaben South and North Constituencies respectively.

First he arrived at Jumapo and freely interacted with people on the streets and inside the town, before having a stakeholders engagement in Asokore, and then a community connect at Effiduase, which was well attended.

The biggest gathering of the night was at the heart of Koforidua, the famous Jackson Park, where thousands gathered all-day to receive Dr. Bawumia.

It was fun-filled day by the thousands who attended, as they proudly displayed party paraphernalia, danced to party songs and sang in support of the Vice President and the MP for the area, Michael Okyere Baafi.

As Bawumia’s famous blue bus approached, the crowd went wild with many struggling to catch a glimpse at him. And the moment the crowd was waiting for arrived when he went up the stage accompanied by party stalwarts, including a former MP for the area, Hackman Owusu Agyemang.

As Bawumia was introduced, the crowd was further charged amidst chorus of “biibi be si”, meaning “something is going to happen,” – which has become one of the signature songs of the Bawumia For President 2024 Campaign.
