Ebo Whyte Shares His Life
Renowned playwright, James Ebo Whyte, popularly known as Uncle Ebo Whyte, has shared some of his private experiences, including a chilling account of how God saved him through prayers, after a revelation.
Speaking in a TV3 video sighted by the paper, the writer recalled how many years ago a revelation was made by a Man of God through a lady, whose name he gave as Esther, during a church service.
He said after Esther told his wife what the revelation was, many strange things started happening in his family.
Uncle Ebo said on more than five occasions, different people at different times told his wife about dreams they had had about him, relating to his death, adding that his life had not been as rosy as one might think.
“I had taken it seriously from day one, so I intensified my prayers because I believe that God hears us when we pray. I also believe that each of us is as close to God as anyone can be,” he said.
The South Suntreso-born writer also told the tale of how he, (then known as Cassius) retired early from boxing at the age of 14, after he was mercilessly beaten by an opponent, despite he being the “area champion”.
Uncle Ebo jokingly teased that even though he is currently a happy person, it doesn’t usually reflect on his face.
“Look at me now, I’m very, very happy but look at my face. This is my face, I just don’t know why I just can’t express my happy mood on my face,” he said.
For him, being in the spotlight had been both a blessing and a curse. For instance, he one day had to hold on to his ‘sweetness weapon’ when he was about to pass urine by the road side, and someone suddenly shouted his name from a moving van.
He also talked about some of his wild escapades, and gave men tips on how to apologise to their wives when they offend them, because wives don’t score their partners “high marks”.
Uncle Ebo Whyte and his Roverman team have served theatre lovers with many thought-provoking plays over the years including ”I Want Your Wife”, ”Nicholas” , ”Dora Why” among others.
