A TOTAL number of 344 people, who recently registered in the Limited Registration exercise in the Ashanti region, have had their ID Cards withheld.
As at Day-nine of the ongoing exercise, a staggering number of 74,000 people have been registered in the region and out of the number, 344 were challenged.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is keeping the ID Cards of the affected persons because their registration had been challenged by other people.
Mr. Bannor Bio, the Ashanti Regional EC Boss, who made the disclosure, said “we are keeping their cards with us because their registration had been challenged.
“In this case, the 344 people would only get their ID cards back after a panel, which will sit on their case, has cleared them of any wrongdoing”.
Bannor Bio said the various District Review Committee Committees of the EC, charged to handle such issues, had already commenced work.
“The committee will thoroughly investigate all the challenged persons and also ask them key questions; and if they are convinced, their cards will be released to them”.
Speaking in an interview on Nhyira FM, Bannor Bio said the challenged people included 281 suspected minors, 55 foreigners and 8 others, whose residence were challenged.
