The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has announced that it has not commenced printing of ballot papers for the 7 December presidential and parliamentary elections.
The comment is in reference to claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it has not yet been furnished with ballot statistics ahead of the printing of ballot papers for the polls.
In a statement issued on Monday (7 October), the Electoral Commission assured the public that it will not depart from the practice of providing ballot statistics to candidates, political parties and all printing houses before the production of ballot papers starts.
“The Electoral Commission has taken note of some statements in the public domain to the effect that the Commission has not provided ballot statistics ahead of the printing of ballot papers for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections,” the EC statement said.
“We would like to assure the general public that the printing of ballot papers has not commenced.
“As has always been the case, the Commission will provide ballot statistics to candidates, political parties and all printing houses before the printing of the ballot papers starts.
“Printing of ballot papers will only commence after ballot statistics have been provided to all stakeholders. The Commission will not depart from this practice,” the statement said.
Meanwhile the EC has stated that printing of notices of polls for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections will begin on Friday (11 October). – AsaaseNews
