Electricity Company of Ghana has disconnected power to Odumase Presbyterian Junior High School in the East-Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region over six hundred Cedis (600) debt.
According to the headmaster of the school, Philip Angmor Teye, the power distributor took the school off the national grid due to what he said was accumulated debts.
He said the inability of the authorities to foot the bills has resulted in a total disconnection, denying the school access to power.
Mr. Angmor Teye in an interaction appealed to the Ghana Education Service to come to their aid before the matter gets worse.
“The lack of access to power undermines academic work; my hope is that authorities will quickly see the urgent need to foot the outstanding debts”, Angmor Teye stated.
Apart from the electricity problem, the school has no canteen and students are compelled to eat under trees in the face of scotching sun.
The situation is even worse during the raining season where students have no alternative but to eat at classroom Mr. Angmor Teye added.
Still in the region, it has emerged that people use the Odumase Akim Anglican Primary School classroom as a place of convenience.
Human excreta are found in the classrooms, undermining academic work, criminals more often than not break into the Headmasters office making away already inadequate teaching and learning materials, Owusu Acheampong Headmaster of the school said.
“The totality of these is that the school continues to suffer whilst the criminals who perpetuate the wrongdoings go scot-free.”
We are demanding from government and its Ghana Education Service to provide us with new ultra-modern classroom block”.
