The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has promised to make frequent power cuts also known as ‘Dumsor’ become a thing of the past in the Ashanti Region.
In line with this, the ECG has lined up several interventions, which the company believe, when successfully implemented, would ensure stable and reliable power supply to their customers in the area.
Mr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, the ECG Managing Director, announced that the ECG has decided to dig deep into the company’s coffers to replace ageing equipment so as to enhance their services.
Addressing the press in Kumasi, he said the ECG had invested GHC 15.2 million in the short term, to help in the intensification and extension projects in the Ashanti Region.
According to the ECG chief, the aforementioned investment, is being targeted to help improve and also make ECGs services reliable, thereby doing away with ‘Dumsor’.
Agyeman-Budu, who was surrounded by ECG gurus from Accra and Kumasi, said additional an additional amount of GHC29.5 million would also be invested in the medium term basis in order to boost ECG operations.
He stated part of the GHC 29.5 million would be used to construct a sub-station at Agogo, with the sole intention of improving services to areas such as Konongo, Ejisu, Kumawu and others.
Furthermore, Agyeman-Budu said the remaining part of the money would be used to build a Switching Station at Adansi Fomena, saying feasibility studies have been completed.
He flatly denied reports that the ECG intentionally plunge some communities into darkness with frequent power cuts, saying that on the contrary, the ECG loses more during power cuts.
Agyeman-Budu urged power thieves to desist from their weird and unpatriotic behaviour, urging power consumers to settle their bills on time to help the ECG to deliver as expected.
