ECG Workers Won’t Be Sacked — MD
THE ELECTRICITY Company of Ghana (ECG) has allayed the fears of its workers, who are afraid of losing their jobs, as talks for concession of the power supply company intensifies.
The ECG Managing Director, Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah, has disclosed that the job security of the ECG workers would be guaranteed even after the concessioner eventually starts work.
He therefore entreated the workers not to worry since nobody was planning to hurt them.
“As part of private sector participation in the ECG, we have declared that no worker of ECG would be sacked after a deal had been reached for a private company to start work.
“In this regard, workers of the ECG should not be afraid that they would be sacked because management cares about them so it is doing everything possible to make sure their job security is guaranteed”.
Ing. Boakye-Appiah was addressing newsmen during a church service at the St’ George’s Church, a non-denominational church in Kumasi, to mark the ECGs 50 years of existence.
He hinted that ECG is currently in talks with some short-listed companies, and the company that would be selected, would take over the core duties of the company such as operations and customer services.
Boakye-Appiah added that the population of ECG workers nationwide had increased from 600 since its inception in 1967 to 6,500, adding that the company had survived for 50 years through thick and thin.
