The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Wing in the Effutu Constituency of the Central Region has organized a breast cancer awareness and free medical screening event for hundreds of women in the constituency.
The event was put together by the Constituency Women’s Organizer, Barbara Beecham, to commemorate the Breast Cancer Awareness month taking place this October across the world.
Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony was the Member of Parliament for the area, Alexander Afenyo-Markin who doubles as the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament.
“Many have died as victims of breast cancer because they did not go for early treatment. Instead of seeking medical attention, most people blame the sickness on evil spirits and all manner of superstition and they resort to prayer and spiritual solutions. That is the problem”, Afenyo-Markin noted in his speech at the ceremony.
He continued: “I am excited about this awareness creating event and free screening organized by the NPP Effutu Women’s Wing to create awareness. We should go for periodic medical checkups and make it a part of our habit. Even for those of us who believe in prayers, let us add the medical care too and live healthy lifestyles.”
Hundreds of women in the constituency took advantage of the programme to participate in the free medical screening exercise which include sugar levels test, screening for hepatitis B, breast cancer screening and blood pressure checks all for free.
