Mercy Little Smith, the celebrated Ghanaian actress known for her iconic role as ‘Benyiwaa’ in the popular TV series Efiewura, has passed.
The Efiewura TV series Facebook page announced her passing on December 18, 2024, with the message: “RIP Benyiwaa. She left the earth plane yesterday. Bye.” The cause of her death remains undisclosed.
Smith captivated audiences with her portrayal of Benyiwaa, the shrewd and resolute wife of Judge Koboo, in the beloved series.
Her performance earned her widespread admiration and secured her place in Ghana’s television drama history.
Fans and well-wishers have been pouring in tributes, offering their condolences to her family. In a heartfelt tribute, her co-star Kwame Dzokoto reflected on her health struggles and the care she received during her final days.
“You fought so well over this health condition, and God knows what’s best for you at this time,” Dzokoto shared on Facebook. “We are shattered. Ghana will always remember your memorable performances and the impact you’ve made on film and culture.”
