Elmina Sharks GM Arrested

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Kelvin Aboagye, General Manager of Elmina Sharks, for allegedly attacking a referee after a Division One League match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks.

The incident occurred on February 16th , 2025, at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina, Central Region.

According to police reports, Aboagye and other individuals physically assaulted the referee and some supporters after the game. While the motive remains unclear, authorities have confirmed Aboagye’s detention as investigations continue.

Law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack. Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to issue a statement. This development is expected to reignite discussions about violence in Ghanaian football and the need for stricter measures to protect referees and match officials.

This arrest follows another violent incident in Ghanaian football just two weeks ago when Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong, a devoted Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter, was stabbed to death during a league match against Nsoatreman at Nsoatre. His tragic death sparked widespread outrage, with fans calling for heightened security at match venues.

As investigations into both incidents continue, the police have assured the public that all culprits will face justice.

POLICE ARREST ONE SUSPECT IN CONNECTION WITH ATTACK ON REFEREE DURING A DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL MATCH AT ELMINA

The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Kelvin Aboagye, in connection with an attack on a referee during a division one football match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks yesterday, 16th February 2025, at the Nduom Sports Stadium, Elmina in the Central Region.

The suspect, who is the General Manager of Elmina Sharks, together with others, attacked the referee and other supporters at the end of the game.

He is currently in Police custody assisting with the investigation while efforts are underway to get the rest of the culprits arrested to face justice.
