Energy Minister Commissions 26 Solar-Powered Health Facilities in 3 Regions

The Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, has commissioned 26 solar-powered micro off-grid health facilities in the Northern, Brong Ahafo and Western Regions.

Speaking at the commissioning on Monday, Mr. John Peter Amewu announced an additional thirty-eight thousand stand-alone for home systems, and 55 Mini-grids to be delivered under the Scaling-up Renewable Energy Program (SREP).

The project is aimed at improving primary healthcare delivery in the communities, and to also improve the living conditions of residents.

In all, the Northern Region has 11 of the projects making it the highest beneficiary. It is followed by Brong Ahafo and then Western Regions who have 9 and 6 respectively.

The solar systems provide uninterrupted power supply to clinics and CHPS facilities in beneficiary communities.

The commissioning is a fulfilment of a campaign promise made by President Akufo Addo during the 2016 election campaign.

At the time, he assured to deliver solar parks in Northern Ghana, and these facilities are among them.

According to the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, the 2.5 million United Nations Foundation (UNF) and UK aid funded solar powered micro grids, is to improve energy access and improve health delivery in the beneficiary areas.
