Energy Ministry to Prosecute Culprits of Fronting

The Ministry of Energy has given the strongest indication that it is ready to prosecute Ghanaians who are helping foreign companies operate in parts of the petroleum sector, which are solely reserved for local companies.

According to the Ministry, a comprehensive plan to deal with such individuals and companies will be announced before the end of April 2018.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the Head of Communications at the Energy Ministry, Nana Damoah warned Ghanaians and foreign companies to desist from engaging in activities within the petroleum sector that will not benefit the country.

“We need to reiterate the fact that Ghanaians fronting for foreign companies within the petroleum sector is very appalling. We are trying to build a Ghana we can all be proud of. We have adopted the rules and regulations that we have to ensure that we all as a country get what it is that we need from the oil and gas industry as well as all other sectors within the petroleum industry.”

He also added that the Ministry will ensure the regulations it introduces to will effectively deal with the problem.

“We have the rules in place, some of them are not really up to date and so the ones that need to be updated we’re working on it. We would announce a comprehensive plan to deal with all the problem of locals fronting for foreigners in the coming days.”

Nana Damoah was speaking on the sidelines of the Maiden Localization workshop organized by the Petroleum Commission.

The workshop which was on the theme “Jobs Creation and Human Resource Development in Ghana’s Upstream Petroleum Sector” was used to introduce newly drafted Guidelines on Employment, Succession Planning and Training of Ghanaians.
