A 22-YEAR old ex-convict, who killed a man over an amount of Gh 1,200 and went into hiding for five months, has been nabbed and remanded into prison custody.
Identified as Kofi Appiah, nicknamed as ‘Malin, the suspect was reportedly fiercely fighting with the 25-year-old man over an amount of GH 1,200 at Ejura on May 1, 2019.
In the course of the fisticuff, Kofi Appiah stabbed his opponent (whose identity is still unknown), killing him instantly in the full glare of the shocked public.
After committing the heinous crime, the ex-convict then vanished into thin air, with the clear motive of escaping arrest and punishment, the police has announced.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, who made the disclosure in a press release, said the police mounted a wild search for the ex-convict for some months.
According to him, after several months of escaping arrest, the police eventually managed to apprehend Kofi Appiah from his hideout on Wednesday, October 2, this year.
ASP Godwin Ahianyo also disclosed that the suspect was arraigned and he had since been remanded into prison custody by a law court.
According to the police PRO, the lifeless body of the deceased had been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital Morgue, for autopsy and identification.
