Medical Practitioners on the Vodafone Healthline Series have debunked the notion that a hangover can be cured by drinking more.
In Episode 3 of Season 10 of the Vodafone Healthline Series, Cardiologist, Aba Folson said contrary to popular opinion that excessive drinking has some benefits, it only destroys vital organs of the body.
“You will speak to them [alcoholics] and speak to them but they would not listen until they realize that their feet are swelling or they are becoming jaundiced,” she said.
A General Practitioner, Kweku Yalley also discouraged the habit of drinking more to cure a hangover.
The next session of the show focused on the story of a young woman who was coerced to undergo unsafe abortion without her knowledge.
Through Vodafone’s assistance, Grace went through medical care to address some complications she was encountering as a result of the abortion.
A Psychiatrist from Korle Bu, Richard Dei Asamoa was also on the show to discuss depression and suicide.
He said persons suffering from depression must seek medical care.
“We all get sad but if it goes beyond a certain point where it is having effects on your body and behavior, then it is depression, and you must seek medical care.”
This week in the medicine session of the show explored the story of the woman who had to undergo surgery for swallowing 78 forks and spoons.
She was later diagnosed and treated for Borderline Personality Disorder.
