Family Rejects NDC’s 10k Cash …Threatens Demo
THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has, reportedly, paid GH¢ 10,000 as compensation to the family of the late Abdul Wasiu, who was killed in cold blood at the party’s regional office some months ago, but the move has rather ignited fire.
Family members and friends of the deceased have described the party’s package as woefully inadequate and an insult to them.
They have therefore threatened a mammoth demonstration in Kumasi very soon to signal their anger and frustration to the leadership of the largest opposition party.
“We shall hit the streets and demonstrate big time in Kumasi to tell the whole world that the NDC is looking down upon us”, Tanko Mohammed, a brother of Wasiu, threatened.
Abdul Wasiu was the member of the NDC’s Taskforce that was shot and killed by some members of ‘The Hawks’, another party vigilante group at the regional office premises.
Some suspects were arrested in connection with his murder but they have since been granted bail as the case is still pending in court.
The bereaved family suspected that the NDC leadership was secretly working to secure the freedom of the suspects, and family members and friends of Abdul Wasiu intended organizing a press conference at Sawaba on Monday over the matter.
Even though the press conference was cancelled at the eleventh-hour, the organizers decided to burn car tyres in the streets.
Armed policemen had to rush to Sawaba Junction to clear the mob from the streets. Few minutes later, the mob stormed the NDC office at Amakom and burnt more tyres there.
Speaking to the media after the incident, Tanko Mohammed warned that, to evert mayhem, the leaders of the party must stay away from the case and allow the law to take its rightful course.
