Fancy Gadam Deserved Artiste of The Year – Socrate Sarfo
The Director of Creative Arts, Programmes and Projects at the National Commission on Culture, Socrates Sarfo has joined the seemingly endless debate emanating from the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2018.
According to him, he was expecting Tamale based artiste, Fancy Gadam to win the artiste of the year, per the definition of the category and not the late Ebony Reigns.
Speaking to TV Africa’s entertainment desk reporter, Araba Aggrey, he said “I think that even somebody like Fancy Gadam was robbed of one key category which is the artist if the year. Per the definition of artist of the year if you look at the definition, Fancy Gadam stands poles apart from all the nominees there.”
“Can you pin point any of the nominees there including the ultimate winner, Ebony who did half of what Fancy Gadam did?” He quizzed.
Ebony on April 14, made history by winning the ‘Artiste of the Year’ at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
She beat Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and 2017 Artiste of the Year winner, Joe Mettle to be adjudged the best artiste in Ghana.
Notwithstanding, Socrate Sarfo went on to congratulate Charter House for a splendid concept.
He believes that it is not rare for any music award show not to receive a backlash, and this clearly passes as one of them.
“I think the VGMA is a good concept and it has its own challenges like any award scheme the world over; so its normal when in Ghana we have our VGMA’s and people are not happy, but in the end we are all winners.”
