Fear Grips Kumasi NDC …After Burning of Party Office
Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region are living in fear that their regional party headquarters could be attacked again as happened Monday afternoon.
While some of the party leadership have expressed fears of returning to the office to work, some gather courage to go there but do not stay for long.
The uneasy calm comes after the Amakom based office was attacked by some blood-thirsty goons in the party, from the Asawase Constituency, on Monday afternoon.
The angry youth totally took control of the party office premises as they openly burnt car tyres and vowed to spill human blood if anybody dared to confront them.
According to reports, the angry NDC youth also locked up the party office, thereby keeping party executives in the region and the 47 constituencies in captivity.
Among the NDC officials that were at the regional office at the time of the attack included Augustus Nana Akwasi, the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman and other top executives.
The paper learnt that some of the fear-stricken party executives sustained severe leg injuries after they jumped through a window to save their lives during the attack.
It took the intervention of armed policemen before the locked offices were opened for the caged party officials to have their freedom and leave the place.
The police then held talks with the angry NDC youth before they would soften their stance and also leave the place for law and order to once again be restored.
Monday’s attack increased to two, the number of attacks at the Ashanti Regional Office by peeved-looking NDC youth from the Asawase Constituency.
The NDC youth from Asawase have vowed to create problems in the NDC until their favourite, Masawudu Mubarick, was allowed to contest in the Asawase primaries of the NDC.
And since the leadership of the NDC are reluctant to reverse their decision to disqualify Masawudu Mubarick, it is likely that the youth would attack the NDC office again.
WONTUMI BRAGS ALOUD
The incident happened barely a week after loudmouthed Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi has alleged that, even though he is a key member of the ruling party, he has a great influence and control over the largest opposition political party in the country, the NDC
According to Wontumi, his influence in NDC extends to virtually all the national executives of the party, many of who respect and carry out his instructions with alacrity.
He bragged that even former President John Dramani Mahama is aware of his (Wontumi’s) enormous control over the NDC national executives.
“I have absolute control over the opposition NDC, not in the Ashanti Region alone but even at the national level as well.
“You can ask John Mahama. He is aware of the control that I have in the NDC, especially on the national executives of the party. This is not bragging, I am being honest and telling the gospel truth here.
“I am so powerful in the NDC that even when a pin drops in the party’s headquarters in Accra, even though I live in Kumasi, I will be aware. Don’t joke with me in Ghana politics”, Wontumi boasted during an interview with Kofi Asante of Nhyira FM in Kumasi.
He boasted further: “The NDC executives at the national level cannot disobey me, they take instructions from me and they act as I want. I am the governor of Ghana politics and I will continue to dominate and control the NDC for many years to come”.
Giving a clue of what he was alleging, Wontumi said “I predicted that Masawudu Mubarick would be disqualified from the Asawase NDC polls some months ago, and they have acted just as I said”.
