FETISH PRIESTS DISPLAY AT MANHYIA
THOUSANDS OF people, from Kumasi and beyond, stormed the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi, on Wednesday morning, to catch a glimpse of some rich magical displays mounted by some famous fetish priests in Asanteman.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the overload of Asanteman, was among the personalities that watched the displays.
The event formed part of activities that have been put together for the one-month celebration of Otumfuo’s two decades on the Golden Stool.
The fetish priests (Atano), drawn from all over Asanteman, were to perform to make the upcoming programmes successful.
The colurful programme was characterized by so much drumming, dancing, as well as firing of musketry, that at a point the fetish priests had to form a long queue as they separately paid homage to Otumfuo, who sat in state.
In fact, the major streets of Kumasi were decorated with the yellow, black and green, which are the official colours of the Asante Kingom, one long week before the celebrations started.
Virtually all the electric poles, trees and other pylons along the major high streets were decorated.
Several dignitaries, including presidents and monarchs, would be visiting Kumasi in the coming days to honour the 16th Asantehene.
