Fiber Optic Project Handed Over to Ghana

The government of Ghana has been handed the Eastern Corridor Fiber Optic project.

The project is expected to expand communication links between Ghana’s Coastal line and Northern Boundary to Burkina Faso and it would improve communications links for central and regional administration offices in support of the national e-Ghana programme initiative.

Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful announced on her Facebook page that: “A delegation from Alcatel-Lucent and the Danish Ambassador to Ghana today (Friday April 13) handed over the Eastern Corridor Fiber Optic Project to the Government of Ghana of which I accepted on the President’s behalf.

“The project would expand communication links between Ghana’s Coastal line and Northern Boundary to Burkina Faso and it would improve communications links for central and regional administration offices in support of the national e-Ghana programme initiative.

“It will serve major towns such as Ho, Kpando, Jasikan, Nkwanta, Bimbilla, Yendi, Tamale, Gushiegua and Bawku as well as other 120 District and Municipal Assemblies and surrounding communities.

“Most importantly, it will provide telecom infrastructure on which the nation’s digitisation efforts will ride. Without a robust fiber optic network, it will be too expensive to deliver telecommunications service to remote parts of the country or deliver high speed internet services to even those of us in the urban area.”
